Right away, you can see streamlined black legs which are made to be sturdy and tough – perfect for kids to use.
The bright and colorful graphics made to look like a soccer stadium catch the eye, while the engineered wood construction can also hold up against regular beatings that may inadvertently happen when in the middle of an intense game.

Unfortunately, there are countless foosball tables out there made of flimsy, cheap material.
One of our favorite features of the Hathaway 56-Inch Primo Foosball Table is that it’s made of durable MDF. Despite being so tough, it’s only 5/8” thick, meaning it’s not taking up any unnecessary room or adding any unneeded weight.
Use it for professional or recreational use; the Primo is perfect for both thanks to high-quality construction and smooth gameplay. Each spinning rod is made from solid steel, which is a bit heavy.
However, this only makes it more stable during rough games. Speaking of stability, you’ll also appreciate the levelers which come on each leg to use on uneven surfaces.
The steel rods are ideal if you’re at an intermediate level, as they’re not the quickest spinning, but allow for skill development.
If you’re going to be displaying your foosball table in a common area, you’re obviously going to want it to look good. We easily rated this model as the most attractive we’ve used, coming with a gorgeous espresso finish and stainless steel trim.
This could either be a plus or minus for you, but you’ll only find one goalie in this game as opposed to the two or three you’ll find with the vast majority of tables.
If you’re a complete beginner, you may find it nearly impossible to score, but if you’re more advanced, you can easily improve skills this way.

Perhaps the most impressive part about the Barrington, is its construction. The oak veneer along with the bronze finishes and A-style legs make for a beautiful table that will great in any home.
There is nothing more annoying then a foosball table that is not perfectly level, the built in, hidden levelers in each leg make the game very easy to level. The solid metal legs keep the table level even when the game gets intense.
The chrome plated steel rods are hollow, which make them not only incredibly tough, but very lightweight. The benefit of having lightweight spinning rods, is that you can achieve quicker gameplay as professionals would.
However, if you’re a complete noob, you’ll also find them easy to use and the ability to improve your skills at a quicker rate.

How to Choose the Best Foosball Table – Buying Guide
Now that you’ve had the chance to look at all of the best foosball tables, which one is the right one for your household? If you’re still unsure, keep reading.
There are a lot of choices to pick from, and they are all excellent choices. However, we all have different situations, space, and skills.
That’s why we’ve decided to take it upon ourselves to create the comprehensive buying guide, below. By the time you’re done reading through it, you’ll have no doubt which one is for you!
Type of Foosball Table
As you noticed from the above models, there are regular foosball tables and combination game tables. There is no “better” choice, but rather which one is better for you?
Standard Foosball Tables
For most people, this is probably the one that you know most, or have at least used. These are full-size tables which almost always require assembly upon arrival.
These are also made to stay in one spot, rather than have folding legs that allow you to take it from room-to-room. Due to this, also expect them to be relatively heavy with solid wood construction.
Less expensive models may feature MDF particle board instead, weighing notably less. Hathaway is probably the best foosball table brand for this type of table.
Combination Game Tables
Are you shopping for children or just looking for general entertainment? Then these may be the one for you. These are great for the entire family, from young children to grandparents.
As the name suggests, these feature an array of different games. While these games tend to vary a bit, you’ll often find most of the following: foosball, air hockey, billiards, and table tennis.
Construction will also usually be solid but vary in size. If you’re not a fan of the other games, then you may just be better off selecting a standard foosball table.
That brings us to our next point, which is size. How much space do you have available, and how much do you want to use? Your standard full-size table is going to be approximately 56 inches long and 30 inches wide.
An important thing to note, is that those 30 inches in width are not counting the fully extended rods. In addition, you’ll need to consider that you need space for players to be moving around! For standard tables, we recommend at least having a 7 x 8 foot space available.
We briefly mentioned the goalie configuration of the tables above, but you may not even know what your preference is if you’ve never or rarely used one. Some will be single-man models while others are double or three-man goalie setups.
So, which one is better? There is no answer to that, as again, it’s all about your preference. You’ll find most tables in the US are three-man models, however. These allow for a quicker game, while one-man goalie models are going to require better skills and precision.
If you’re serious about fairness (which we hope you are), then you’re going to need a table with levelers. Even if you’re not playing on what appears to be an uneven surface, tables can easily begin to lean, which can cause a great advantage to those on the non-leaning side.
You definitely want the playing rods in your table to be sturdy. Ideally, they’ll be made of steel which is known to be extremely durable and smooth. Hollow rods are great if you really want a fast game, as they aren’t as heavy. Professional tables are almost always going to come with hollow rods, and in mid-level tables you’ll have solid rods.
This is one of the most important parts in choosing a table, as you don’t want it to be cheap and flimsy, otherwise it’s not going to last you long at all. You’ll see them made of solid wood, composite, particle board, and even plastic.
Wood is the best option, hands down. Wood not only looks the most attractive, but will be the most durable. However, it’s also going to be the heaviest and usually isn’t ideal if you’re looking for a table that’s easily portable or can fold up and be stowed away. The downside of wood is also the fact that if you’re using it in humid climates, it’s vulnerable to warping.
This is extremely cheap material which may give you a low price tag but is also subject to breaking relatively easily after a short period of time. These are very lightweight models, so they are easy to move from room-to-room. If you are buying for your kids and know that they’re going to be rough with the table, you may want to purchase a particle board table.
Composite lies somewhere in-between solid wood and particle board. It’s a good mid-range option that holds up relatively well and can also be formed into attractive models. Another bonus feature of composite, is that it’s very resistant to moisture and humidity. If you want to use it in your garage or outdoors in the middle of the summer, you shouldn’t have issues with it warping or anything like that.
Just like with most sports equipment, you should take into consideration of the skill level of those who will be using it.
Beginner: Are you, your family or friends absolute beginners? If so, then you are probably going to want a table to be used solely for casual play. In these cases, you may opt for particle board models which are lightweight, easy to transport, and won’t cost you much money. If not, there are some tabletop options out there as well, but in our experience they aren’t as fun and are quite restrictive.
Intermediate: If you or the other players have a fair amount of experience in playing foosball, then you’ll want to opt for a mid-level table. These are made with much better materials than beginner tables, and you’ll notice a difference in how smooth operation is. These are made to last for a good amount of time, and do tend to cost a bit more than beginner models.
Advanced: Are you a pro or someone who’s been playing foosball for years? Then you’ll probably want a table that can facilitate your high skill level. You may even want to shoot for one that fits ITSF standards, which will hold up to constant use and stress. You’ll find ergonomically designed models that are comfortable to use and respond to your actions smoothly and quickly.
As with most purchases, having a budget in mind is important. We highly recommend coming up with a budget for yourself before you start looking for a new table, and really stick to that number to avoid any buyer’s remorse. Setting a range for yourself will allow you flexibility to find an array of models to choose from, but will ensure that you’re happy with your purchase and won’t regret spending that amount of money.
FAQs About Foosball Tables
Q: Why do foosball tables play from left to right?
A: This has a bit to do with “handedness”, with tables set up this way to encourage scoring. Right-handed people have stronger right hands than left, and people are stronger supinating than pronating. So, by playing left to right, the right-handed players’ dominant hands are going in its non-dominate direction.
Q: How many people play on a foosball table?
A: A full-sized table will accommodate 4 people so 3 people to a team. If this scenario you will either play offense or defense. You can of course play just two people but you will then have to switch back and forth from offense to defense.
Q: How difficult is it to disassemble an entire table?
A: If you’re planning on doing this regularly, I’d advise on opting for a table with folding legs, instead. Disassembling the table is going to require you to remove the rods, men, and other components of the table which is honestly pretty time-consuming. Not only that, but you’ll also have to deal with where you’re going to store all of these parts in the meantime!
Q: What are the rules of foosball?
A: There are 6 main rules, which we’ll cover below.
- Flip a Coin – Flipping a coin will determine who serves the foosball to start the game. After the first goal is scored, the team who scored gets to serve the next ball.
- No Spinning – A spin is when the rod completely turns 260 degrees without touching the ball.
- No Jarring – This is when a player slams their rods against the wall of the table in an effort to jar the foosball loose from the other team’s possession.
- Dead Balls – If the ball stops between the two team’s rods, the ball must be picked up and reserved, with the serve going to the team who last scored. If it occurs on the defensive side behind the defensive 2 bar, the player must move the ball back into playing position.
- Out of Play – If a ball comes off the table area, it’s out of play and must be reserved by the team who last scored.
- 5 Bar Passing – You’re required to pass the ball within 10 seconds from your 5 bar rod to the 3 bar rod directly after a serve. After the first serve, you have 15 seconds to pass from the 5 bar. You cannot stop the ball on the 5 bar and pass forward to the 3 bar. It must be moving, and touch 2 men on the 5 bar before advancing.
Tips For Playing Foosball
#1: Clean the table regularly.
It may not seem like it, but foosball tables gather dust and grime rather easily, especially given how many peoples’ hands come into contact with it. Just using a soap and water mixture with a damp cloth should do the trick. Just make sure you’re not getting it so wet that you risk damaging any wood.
#2: If you’re just starting out, remember to relax your grip.
Many have the instinct to hold onto the grips as tight as they can, but it’s better to keep things relaxed and loose. Keeping a relaxed grip will actually give you more power when you flick your wrist, snapping a shot.
#3: Keep your feet shoulder-width apart.
Opening up your stance a bit, keeping at a 45-degree angle away from the table will also give you more maneuverability in your right arm. This will let you move quicker and with more power!
#4: Pay more attention to your opponent’s men than your own.
While it may seem counterintuitive, focusing on your opponent’s players will actually let you spot brief gaps in their formation. Once you spot a gap, you will have a pathway to move the ball forward. If you see a clear shot to the goal, obviously take it.
Now that you’re practically an expert in selecting the best foosball tables, which one will be taking up residency in your home? Whichever one you choose will be an excellent product, but it’s more important to select the one that perfectly fits your needs, skill level, and available space. We hope that this article has allowed you to do just that. Thanks for staying tuned with us, and we’ll see you again shortly!
