Best Electric Bikes For The Money

#1- Ancheer Electric Bikes

Based in Los Angeles, USA, Ancheer produce affordable fitness equipment and vehicles. These include treadmills, electric scooters, and some of the best inexpensive electric bikes available.

Although Ancheer make electric bikes with a low price tag, customers consistently leave good reviews and are satisfied with the performance of their bikes.

Ancheer is one of the top-selling brands of electric bike on Amazon. Ancheer have an electric bike for every need, whether it be shopping, commuting, fitness, or even mountain biking. They even have folding e-bikes in their range.

If you are looking for an e-bike under $1000 that can get you around town and help you carry your groceries back from the shops, the Ancheer Cruiser is perfect for you.

You can get a top speed of 16mph from the 250 W motor and 36V 12.5 Ah battery. This translates into a range of approximately 35 miles, which should be more than enough to get all of your errands done. Three power modes are available and the battery is removable.

This bike is designed with comfort and ease of use in mind. Unlike regular frames that require you to swing a leg over the rear wheel, the Cruiser is easy to mount thanks to the step-through frame design.

The handlebar allows you to ride in a relaxed upright position and you can fine-tune the stem length to customize the fit.

Even the ride itself is made as comfortable as possible thanks to the high volume tires that ensure a smooth ride. In case you hit any unexpected potholes, the suspension fork will take the sting out of the impact.

Ancheer also offer e-bikes for more adventurous riders. For example, their Electric Mountain Bike is not only great for commuting but can also be taken on off-road adventures.

The powerful 500W motor and the removable 36V 12.5 Ah battery can give you a top speed of 20mph. 3 power modes and 21 Shimano gears are available to get you to the top of any hill and easily negotiate forest trails.

Its versatility is perhaps the best feature of this electric bike. Customers who have left reviews enjoy using it for commuting and shopping, as well as keeping fit.

An average of 4 stars and nearly 500 reviews highlights the popularity of this model.

As already mentioned, there are folding bikes in Ancheer’s line up as well. If you like the sound of mountain biking but do not have much storage space or need to take your bike on public transport, take a look at the Folding Electric Mountain Bike.

It does have a slower top speed than the non-folding model but is otherwise comparable in performance.

Commuters looking for the best cheap electric bike that can fold are also taken care of. The Ancheer Folding Electric Bike is perfect for commuting and can be folded down for easy storage either at home or in the office.

The small 20” diameter wheels help keep this e-bike compact and the 250W motor enables you to zip around at up to 17mph.

There are three power modes and 7 gears, which is usually enough for commuting. If your city has steep hills then you may want to look at a bike with lower gearing or a more powerful motor.

A range of around 30 miles should be able to get you to your office and back. If you need more range, the battery is removable so you can recharge it while you are working.

One more model of note from Ancheer is the Folding Electric Mountain Bike with Lightweight Wheels. This e-bike is a great all-rounder. Although it is technically a mountain bike, it is also very suitable for shopping trips or commuting.

Really though, this e-bike is targeted at a younger audience who want a cool-looking electric bike to get around town. Like the other folding bikes that Ancheer produce, it can be stored out of the way.

Best Fat Tire Electric Bikes

#2- EcoTric Electric Bikes

ECOTRIC-Fat Tire Electric bike

Ecotric manufacture some of the best budget electric bikes with fat tires. All of their bikes have 4 inch wide tires. If you have not seen a fat tire bike before, the first time you do, you may think it looks a bit like it has monster truck tires.

Fat tire bikes were developed to make it easier to ride over sand and snow as the wider tire sits on top of these surfaces. It was quickly realized that fat tire bikes are also a ton of fun to ride on normal mountain bike trails and very comfortable to ride in the city.

Not many people actually commute on a pedal power fat tire bike because the tires are slow-rolling and require more power to accelerate.

Ecotric solved this problem by producing electric fat tire bikes so that you can enjoy comfort without the extra effort. On offer are folding e-bikes for commuting as well as electric mountain bikes for the adventurous.

This 20” wheeled electric bike for commuting is the perfect choice for commuting and ease of storage. The 500W motor gives you a top speed of 20mph.

You get a range of 23miles from the 36V 12Ah battery, which can be removed for charging. The motor has two power modes. You can choose from pedal assist or throttle. The latter does not require any pedal power to accelerate.

7 gears are available to help you get up and down the hills in your city. The 20” wheels may look small but coupled with the fat tires they smooth out uneven road surfaces, allowing you to ride to the office in comfort.

Disc brakes keep you safe in the city by providing strong braking power, allowing you to stop quickly and reliably.

If you need to use public transport on your commute, or do not have much storage space then this e-bike folds down to a compact size.

If you need something even more compact, then take a look at Ecotric’s 14” folding e-bike. Although the motor is not as powerful at 250W, you still get a top speed of 17.4mph and a range of 28 miles from the 36V 8Ah battery.

You get the same two power modes: pedal assist and throttle but this e-bike is a singlespeed meaning you can only rely on the combination of motor power and your legs.

For flat cities or ones with small hills, this will not be a problem. This e-bike is not recommended for riding up or down steep hills. In fact, Ecotric state that it must not be ridden up hills that are steeper than 8° because the front wheel can lift off the ground and cause injury.

The best aspect of this folding electric bike is its seriously compact size. You can fold it and store it out of the way in your apartment, in the office or on the train.

As already mentioned, Ecotric also produce mountain bikes suitable for rides on the beach or snow. Their standard 26” fat tire electric bike is perfect for riding off-road but you can also use it for commuting if you wish, especially if you have cold snowy winters and still want to use a bike to get around. If you want to tackle more challenging trails, take a look at this model with a suspension fork. This will allow you to ride rough trails in comfort, or take the sting out of potholes on the road.

For offroad use or riding on the beach, these are the best electric bikes you can find under $1000. They both have a 500W motor and a top speed of 20mph.

Like Ecotric’s other e-bikes, the motor has both pedal assist and throttle modes. These fat tire e-bikes are equipped with e-bike specific Shimano gears with 7 speeds and disc brakes to give you all the stopping power you need. The battery is removable for easy charging.

If you are just interested in cruising on the beach and looking cool while doing so, then the Ecotric beach cruiser is for you. This model stands out from the rest with its extremely powerful 48V 1000W battery.

Top speed is limited at 25mph but you can change this. Please observe the local laws regarding this!

Best Folding Electric Bikes

#3- Swagtron Folding Electric Bikes

Many people are put off from purchasing an electric bike because they have nowhere to store it at home or they do not want it to take up too much of the limited space on busy public transport when they are commuting.

The solution to both of these problems is a folding bike with small wheels. Such a bike has a hinge on the frame and other moveable parts that allows it to be folded down to a small size. Once you have done this, it can be put neatly out of the way in your apartment or office.

When it comes to the best electric bike under $1000 that can fold, Swagtron have a couple of models that should not be overlooked. The model that folds the smallest is the EB7 Plus, which has 20” wheels.

Unlike the standard EB7 that is singlespeed, the EB7 Plus has a 7-speed Shimano drivetrain offering you a choice of gears.

The 350W motor offers pedal only, pedal assist, and throttle modes. The top speed is 18.6mph and you can get a range of 19 miles from each charge. The battery is replaceable and locked onto the frame with a key.

There are a couple of nice features of the EB7 Plus that make your life a bit easier. The first is the rear coil shock that takes the sting out of potholes and generally gives a smoother ride.

The other is the integrated handle at the top of the frame. When the bike is folded, this handle allows you to easily pick the bike up. Thanks to the small 16” wheels, this folding e-bike can be made very compact.

If you want to have a bit of fun when riding your e-bike or want an exceptionally comfortable ride, check out Swagtron’s EB-8 Outlaw. The 20” wheels are fitted with 4.0” wide all-terrain fat tires.

These work with the suspension fork and rear shock to give the smoothest ride possible, whether you are negotiating uneven surfaces, whether they be on asphalt or off-road.

The technical details are similar to the EB7 Plus. The EB-8 Outlaw has a 350W motor with the same three modes and a 7-speed Shimano gear system. It also has a top speed of 18.6 mph but a much larger range of 34.4 miles.

The larger 20” wheels and fat tires do mean that it takes up more space when folded but this is not too significant; it is still compact in its folded form.

Best Electric Bikes For Cargo

#4- Nakto Electric Bikes

NAKTO-electric bike cargo

If you want an affordable electric bike for shopping then you ideally want to avoid carrying heavy items in a bag. The same goes for commuters who need to transport documents.

Riding a bike while wearing a heavy bag is uncomfortable. For this reason, Nakto offer a range of cheap electric bikes equipped with a cargo rack for you to attach bags.

Some also come with a front basket. You can forget about taking your car to the shops for good and make an eco-friendly choice without compromising on the load you can bring home.

A good starting point when looking at Nakto electric cargo bikes is this unisex model with beach cruiser styling. The 250W motor has three power modes, allowing you to use just the throttle, pedal assist, or turn the power off completely and use your legs.

You get a top speed of 20mph and a range of 23miles, which along with the quality Shimano 6-speed gears will help you get around town all day.

While it looks like a city bike, do not be afraid to take this model onto gravel or dirt roads. The semi-slick tires are fast-rolling on asphalt but have enough grip on the sides to support light off-road riding.

For women or anyone that wants an electric cargo bike that is easy to mount, Nakto have two models that are both worth taking a look at. You can choose from the model with classic Dutch shopping bicycle styling or the model with a more modern design.

In terms of performance, both are the same. A 250W motor with throttle and pedal assist modes, paired with a 36V 12Ah removable battery gives you a range of 35 miles.

A Shimano 6-speed gear system is specced to help you get up hills. On the back is a cargo rack for heavy items and you can store delicate groceries in the basket at the front.

Nakto also have two folding models for commuters. The 20” wheel model is a great budget electric bike if you need something that folds down to a compact size but can also transport cargo.

This is a very fast e-bike with a top speed of 28mph from the 250W motor. You can make use of the pedal assist mode, throttle only, or turn off the motor entirely. A range of 25 miles is possible from the removable 36V 10Ah battery.

There is also a 16” wheel model that folds down even smaller. Surprisingly for an e-bike with such small wheels, it still has a cargo rack.

Like its bigger brother, this model has a 250W motor with the same pedal assist and throttle modes. Top speed is slower at 20mph and the range is 22 miles.

Nakto also have some other cool bikes in their range worth taking a look at. Thinking about getting e-bikes for your kids? Then check out this small-wheeled, fat-tired electric bike.

They also have a very cool fat-tire beach cruiser.

#5- Eahora Electric Mountain Bikes

Riding off-road is a great experience. You can exercise and get away from traffic and civilization for a while. There are many high-end electric mountain bikes available but they can be very expensive.

There is some great technology on the XC100. The 350W motor features the same three modes found on many e-bikes and has a top speed of 26mph. Unusually for e-bikes at this price point, the motor has EPAS technology.

This recharges the Samsung lithium battery by up to 20% when you are pedalling above 15mph. When you are coasting downhill, 60% of the energy can be regenerated. As a result, you can ride for longer and the range can be up to 80 miles.

In addition to this great electric mountain bike, Eahora make a beach cruiser that you can also take off-road. It shares the same Samsung battery and 350W motor as the XC100, with 3 power modes and EPAS.

Electric Bike Buyer’s Guide

How to Choose an Electric Bike Under $1000

Electric bikes have made cycling more accessible to many people. With the aid of a motor, people who may have been put off before can now enjoy riding a bike. The popularity of electric bikes for commuting is growing every year.

Distances seem shorter, hills seem smaller, and the fun factor certainly seems greater. The many practicalities of electric bikes have made the market for them to boom in recent years, along with the prices.

best electric bike brands under 1000 guide

Do not fall into the trap of thinking that you have to spend top dollar to get yourself an e-bike worth having. Fortunately, there are affordable options available for under $1000.

However, there is a difference between affordable and cheap. It can be hard to tell the difference or even know where to find the best electric bike under $1000.

For these reasons, we want to show you five brands that make some of the best inexpensive electric bikes on the market.

It is important to note the reason why these e-bikes cost so much less than others. Some are direct to consumer brands that avoid selling through bike shops.

All of them avoid using the highest quality components and materials, settling instead on those that allow them to build a functional and reliable e-bike for less money.

Lower quality components often means more weight, and this is certainly true for many of the bikes you will find in this article.

However, once you consider that there is a motor doing a lot of the hard work for you, this becomes less of a concern.

When looking at an e-bike you will see various numbers and symbols relating to the battery and motor, and there are some other considerations as well.

While you do not need in-depth knowledge of how e-bikes work, a basic understanding will help you weigh up your options.

Motor Power

The maximum power output that a motor can sustain is expressed in watts (W). Higher numbers mean more power and potentially more speed. How long you can expect the motor to keep driving the wheels depends on the battery.

A measure of how much power a  battery can produce. Watts is the sum of volts (V) x amps (A). For example, a 10A 20V battery can produce 200 watts.

Amp Hours (Ah)

This is the capacity of the battery, or more specifically, how much current can be produced over one hour of use. A 12Ah 20V battery can give 12 amps for 1 hour at 20 volts. It can also give 6 amps for 2 hours.

How far you can travel on one battery charge is the range. Manufacturers will give an estimate but it is different for every person. The actual range you will get depends on various factors, like your weight, the terrain you ride, and how you ride.

Motor Type

E-bike motors are either mounted on the frame or are part of the rear wheel hub. The latter is more efficient but the large weight of the motor is at the rear of the bike, causing it to be imbalanced.

For commuting and light off-road use, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Power Modes

There are two ways in which e-bikes are propelled forwards. While an electric bike can have both options, not all do. Pedal assist is generally found on every e-bike. In pedal assist mode, the motor is activated in reaction to the pedals being turned.

The other mode that you may find is throttle. This mode allows you to turn a throttle on the handlebar to activate the motor, just like on a motorbike.

Without the additional power from your legs, throttle mode will deplete the battery faster. A third mode is often advertised, which is technically not really a mode as it turns off the motor entirely, letting you use just your leg power.

Removable Battery

Being able to remove the battery from your e-bike has two advantages. You can take an additional battery with you on rides to effectively double the distance that you can travel.

The other advantage is that you can charge the battery away from the bike, meaning you can take it into your home or office for charging and leave the bike elsewhere.

How We Researched

To come up with the top e-bike brands under $1,000, we researched a variety of sources for reviews such as CompetitiveCyclist, JensenUSA, REI, EVO along with our own personal experience.

We also consulted online magazines for product research and reviews to get as much unbiased information as we could. To help weed out fake reviews we used Fakespot.com to make sure we only looked at genuine reviews.

With so much quality gear available, we had to narrow it down based on what we felt were the best options for the price. The staff authors have a wide and varied background in road cycling, racing and bike packing.

The authors have decades of experience in cycling and eager to share their knowledge with readers.

To help narrow down the selection we used personal experiences along with recommendations from fellow cyclists, bloggers and bike shops.

After extensive research, we came up with our list to help you choose the right one for you.
